Just sat in a....
« on: 08 July 2012, 20:34:29 »

.........1972 (K) reg MGB GT today at a local garage.   Looking very fetching in old english white, the sticker on the window read £3495. :o :o

Amazingly small by the standards of 2012......I reckon  the 3.5 V8 version would have gone like shit off a shovel.

Perhaps I'm going through a mid-life crisis. :)

Don't they have a smell all of their own. I was looking around an old Triumph a few weeks ago & the smell was just sublime  8) 8) :) :)

It reminded me of my old Rover P6's that I used to own :y :y

Three things put me off an old M.G

1. Girlie image.
2. It shares an engine with a Morrris Marina 1.8 TC.
3. It handles like a dog on lino.

It was the chrome bumper model though..... :y :y

If an MGB owner had time on their hands they could pull up a chair and literally watch it rust away before their eyes. ;D
Mine had an alloy bonnet and a fibreglass airdam. Every other panel was as rotten as a pear. ::)

I had one in 1974 , a GT in aquamarine which was a pretty rare colour. I had it 9 months due to the crippling insurance which would be considered pennies today .
It was a "cool" car in it's day though and I still have some vivid memories from those nine months of ownership ;)
One bad memory I have was being continually beaten away from traffic lights by Mk3 Cortinas  with the drivers kids waving at me from the back window.
It was a great long distance tourer though and took me on my early youthfull forays south of Hadrians wall several times , all very enjoyable .............
WHS 975K , I hope you're still out there .

Ah yes.....the Mk3. A good friend of mine owned a 2000 GXL. If memory serves it was  white with a BVR. Pretty swift it was too. :y :y

Guess we invented the V8 MGB - we fitted a Rover 3.5 V8 lump & gearbox into an MGB roadster in 1970 - went like stink.  Then a couple of years later BL started fitting the V8s into MGB GTs - don't think they ever factory fitted V8s into roadsters though.

The MGC was an absolute rsol of a motor - great heavy 3 litre staight 6 lorry engine fitted and with all that weight at the front tended to go straight on at corners.  Believe same lump fitted to Austin Healey 3000s.
