Geocashing was a good laugh in a beautifull area of the lakes.

Working on cars is a good laugh, provided conditions suit.

But I would not want to spend an entire day doing either, personally.

Getting the balance right is important IMO. We also know that some people won't attend unless they can get sumat fixed. So...

Maybe... If those that know how to do a job, supervise those owners while they do the job themselves perhaps? Only stepping in when the awkward bits arise or they get stuck. There will always be those that can't of course. But at least the workload will be less, hopefully. I think most people are keen to do their own anyway if possible..?

I really enjoy the work on cars, but I must say Newent last was excessive for me, and was too knackered to enjoy the evening tbh. We got an impressive amount of work done between us all at Newent and Guffers bash. Which I loved personally, but it's tiring.

IMO... Do a few jobs, meet a few members, do a few events, drink a few beers. I also love it when people bring their favourite delicacies. H21's Jura, Taxi drivers pickled eggs, various beers, cheese and biscuits, olives. General BBQ stuff. Lovely. ...even curry.

So a bit if everything IMO. But whatever suits really. :)

Sounds good Chris. But where do you draw the line with the work? Who's car will not be worked on too allow us to go and do some sort of event?
Ask your Mrs, see what she has too say, as the Girls input is as important as ours :y

I will do mate. There might be some toys thrown if she can't go shopping though ;D

But seriously, I know what she'll say. "I don't mind" and she'll happily fit in and nater away quite happily.

But you raise a valid point, on how far to take the work/jobs. Would hope the workload wouldn't reach last years level. But it is what interests me tbh.

i think the working bit on the cars is interesting and as chris said even better if you do it yourself supervised so to speak for those that dont know how and want to learn

but equally watching the work that was done last year was bloody loads chris spent the day under numerous cars whilst daz kept taking of wheels and putting them back on Nige's car for some reason but seriously those that were working on the cars just didnt stop felt like a spare willie as i could not help although i would given the oppertunity but interesting all the same

the going off to visit is a good idea but as mentioned it can be costly, The wifeys shopping thing sounds good would know Jane would be up for that definatley. Also with the going off site thing we and some others will have doggies with us. The treasure hunt geo thingyme bob sounds good you never know we may find a used pair of pink crocs ;D

Specifically regarding Newent:
Agree totally with young Gixer's/old Entwood's comments (and so will Mrs Seth).

Getting the work/social content to be an acceptable balance to suit attendees may prove to be something of a challenge, especially as it's only a two-day bash in it's entirety.
Personally, even though I/we are quite content with our usual 'tried/tested' order of proceedings, Dazzle's thoughts are certainly worthy of discussion.

So, as an added attraction on the 'social' kinda theme, here's my two pennorth:

Around 15-20 minutes drive from Newent, with the added attractions of Symonds Yat. :y

I agree that some of the guys did seem to spend all day working on cars last year at Newent, and as Chris says he was too knackered to enjoy the evening which is as much a part of the meet as anything else.
Perhaps limit the work to half a day(ish) and plan something for the afternoon. Obviously weather will take a large part in the day for both parts.
I must admit I have learned a lot from 'the experts' by talking, listening and watching the work going on!

As my 'bit for the cause', there are some lovely places to visit in the Forest of Dean. (http://www.visitforestofdean.co.uk/attractions/thedms.aspx?dms=11&groupid=2
An old mine, a cave system,a trail through the woods, several towns for shopping and Tintern Abbey if you are in to old buildings.

I seem to recall a few months ago that another member suggested something along those lines, but was shot down. iirc, it ended up almost a slanging match ???

OOF I think, is primarily a learning centre it seems to me. Or at least that is my primary interest. Perhaps that learning curve is tailing off. Maybe that's behind my feelings on the matter :-\ . On the one hand we can geocache etc anywhere. Learning omegas might be more specific. But on the other hand, social stuff needs catering for too. It's a bit unfair to drag the family off camping, then disapear under a bonet all day.

Although better halfs in the mix hasn't always gone to plan. Let's face it.

Just thoughts really. Whatever goes at the end if the day. :y

I found the Lakes this year thoroughly enjoyable. Probably the most enjoyable Lakes since the very first one, remember:

http://images.omegaowners.com/images/events/lakes07/footielarge.htm

The Lakes is a stunning location, yet for the previous 4 events, I hadn't even left the site. Newent, I've never left the site.  TBH, I may as well be in some lockup somewhere.

That said, I quite like working on cars, and especially like helping others out.

I quite like Gixer's idea, but I know in reality, these jobs will run on to 6/7pm, and it will be the same people, shagged out, becoming buckaroo targets in the evening  :-\

So, all things equal, I'd probably go along with DLK's original idea.

Well I have moved location but I still have some stock with the blke in charge of the local facility.  It is not as big as the last (big) one but there is a butt load of space in the open for those with gazebos.  That said as long as the w@nker who tried (and failed) to get me in trouble over the mini-meet i gone I doubt there'll be an issue.

As I may be out of a job in Aug next year I guess we'll have to do it in the first six months to be sure.
