Am after a larger TV for gaming with, allready have a Plasma 46" so fancy a LED 60"

Seen a sharp model that fits the bill, mixed reviews about it,  then a certain AV forum the members suggest the Plasma's are better for gaming.

Then there are mixed feelings about backlit and edge lit screens.

For me it is so confusing, especially as I just found this regards the Sharp 60"

Is it me, is that a contradiction, one type verse the other, ?

Open to ideas, I was warned of the high energy use when I bought my Plasma, it has made a differnce to the leccy bill, but then also did the leccy price hikes.

Seems Plasma running costs have come down.

Would appreciate anyones views regards Panasonic v Samsung v LG v Others, sound not a major issue as I have a yamaha RDS 9.1 amp that will be setup with it.

I was told that plasma is better for gaming as the screen refresh rate is quicker than LED and LCD screens

i had a lg50pc1d.....it was plasma and ran in 1080i was quite sharp and ran very well....when it went bang last year i got a toshiba led back lit 42 inch that runs full 1080p and is a great improvement...it has lovely colour and is spot on for gaming...i use it for ps3....
   richer sounds are quite good(although i did buy the toshiba in the best buy closing down sale) and had a lovely 60 inch panasonic which i was very tempted with ..just that my living room in the house i moved to last july was smaller and the 50 inch lg looked too big...

I'm too old for gaming, but as far as films go, a 70inch plasma, Sony 5.1 Blu-ray surround DVD player = heaven!!!

But I'd settle for a 3D Panasonic . . .

not much gaming experience here.. I'll recommend samsung es7000 or higher..  have many capabilities.. youtube, browsers,
built in camera , 3d etc etc.. have also an interesting feature, you can upgrade the cpu and mobo by an add on card so you dont have to pay for panel again..    however, for size 60 you must be really far from tv or you may have problems with eyes and head turning

I have a 51inch Samsung plasma. 3d as well. Play the ps3 on it, never had any problems with it, fantastic sound and picture

I've just changed from a 42" Plasma to a 47" LED.

I use my xbox360 a fair amount, but must say the picture is much sharper and clearer on the LED than the plasma!!

If you can afford it go for OLED its an even better clarity again

Do shop around too. I went to a few high street stores, one of them that sounds like an indian dish, had the tv I decided on.  No move on the price. Went across the road to another electrical retailer directly opposite who had the same tv, but £78 cheaper

So back to the 1st store showed them that it was cheaper across the road and they immediately price matched..... Thank you very much

There are two Sharp models of the Aquos (I presume that's what you're looking at) - from memory the 6xx series are edge lit, the 8xx series are full back-lit LED panels, so go for the latter (more expensive, naturally).

Plasma has a better response time than even the best LED panel and still has much better black levels.

LED won't suffer 'screen burn' if you game for extended periods like a Plasma can (although if you run the Plasma in properly it's much less likely).

For me, 60"+ I'd probably go LED due to the enormous price difference .. much as it pains me and I really want another Plasma, the Aquos 70" LED might be my next purchase to go with the Arcam AV9 & P7.

Good point, but at the time he did offer advice, didn't waffle and never tried to hard sell.  He was a "mature" guy and was nice to chat to. The other shop, they were a younger but nice bunch, yet seemed to busy chatting with each other than helping customers!
