Do shop around too. I went to a few high street stores, one of them that sounds like an indian dish, had the tv I decided on.  No move on the price. Went across the road to another electrical retailer directly opposite who had the same tv, but £78 cheaper

So back to the 1st store showed them that it was cheaper across the road and they immediately price matched..... Thank you very much

A local place to me is Crampton and Moore, plus the usual Curry's and Comet Outlets.  Google is brilliant for price checking, pricerunner and other price comparison sites come up trumps.

Crampton and Moore have realised that offering a 5 year warranty on most of thier TV's is a good way to make sales.  John Lewis offer a 5 Year Warranty on all TV's and will price match any internet offer on a like for like basis, when I asked if that worked the same way with warranties  I was told no, they price match and give a 5 year warrany anyway.Also hear good reports that TV's from JL often turn up next day.

Am still confused regards the edge lit and back light bits.  The other thing is the 100Hz refresh.  That is starting to get completely comfusing as well. As there are 600 Hz and 800CMI and other abrviations on various TV brands.

AFAIK the edge lit (6xx) uses LEDs around the edge firing toward the centre of the screen, parallel to the glass, and essentially prisms to bend the light so it comes out of the front of the screen. Basically it's the LED version of a standard cold cathode lit LCD screen.

The 'full back' LED panels use a whole second 'panel' of backlight to shine directly out through the LCD matrix; some sets use this to switch off areas of the backlight entirely when they detect dark scenes to improve dynamic contrast and black levels, though I don't think the Aquos does that (and, indeed, on sets that do this most people end up turning it off as it has some annoying side effects like halos and dark patches).

That's my understanding, anyway..

The refresh rate stuff .. I'm not sure about, to be honest. You're right that it's an entirely confusing minefield - especially when, as you've found, manufacturers don't agree on what 'refresh rate' is!
