Yes it's well worth a visit, although we where there when the air show was on.

Must have been 20 odd spitfires there that day, so the museum was a bit over looked, ESP as we could look round the hangers where they where re building numerous other spitfires. Imagine. Not just spitfires, but spitfire engines...  And some of them in bits.

<stands to salute> we will never forget. :y

Duxford is a top place to visit for historic aircraft nuts. There's a lot to see and you should be able to loose a whole day there even without an airshow on.

Just love the TSR2.... massive shame what our goverment did to our nation regarding our once lead in the world of aviation and technology.... boooooo hisssss

Been to duxford a few times... I was once lucky enough to see a Spit take off and do a few circuits.... Plus i was overwhelmed with how huge the B52 is!!! they had a B24 and B17 under either wing of it!! The land warfare exhibits are very good as well...... Hmmm i wonder if i can squeeze a visit in again this year.... ::) ::)

Been to duxford a few times... I was once lucky enough to see a Spit take off and do a few circuits

To go off on a slight tangent, I was once stood just off the edge of the runway at North Weald with many others during a pilots briefing for the wings n wheels radio control model airshow. Some of us where watching the spit and mustang taxi over to the end of the runway from the other side of the airfield. The guy doing the briefing was given a nudge and he stopped so we could all watch the pair take off. They roared past and we all stood grinning like chimps then turned back and continued with the briefing.

What most people didn't notice was the two aircraft doing a very wide circuit and then heading back in a few minutes later for a low level flyby before heading off to their destination airshow. Standing listening to the regular safety jargon and blissfully unaware of the returning war birds we were without warning suddenly blasted by 56 litres of supercharged (and unsilenced) V12 Merlin ripping past at what must have been around 150 - 200 mph with the taps open!  :o

Needless to say our reactions were something like this -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvDDDKnNhuE only there were about 50 or 60 of us and we had it in stereo. Oh how I wish I had that on video.

These two are based at duxford (the scream comes from the radiator ducting in the belly of the P51) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=HOm4nOTHMlc

Been quite a few times as only around 35min drive from me. Airshows there are usually brilliant but it's a good day out even if there's not one on. Plenty to do and see. :y
