Think I am in trouble with the wife.
« on: 20 July 2012, 09:23:36 »

Oh dear, She phoned me at work this morning about 07.30 to ask me to do something. I politely gave my reasons for not doing it. Then about 08.30 she phones again, to give me another chance to say I would do it. I flatly said "no I am not doing it"

Think it is going to be a very cold weekend for me  :(

It is nothing funny, I am refusing to do the brakes on my eldest sons car. There are reasons for not doing it.

I'm assuming you have your reasons why you don't want your son to use the car or do you want him to learn to do it himself.  :-\

You may have to elaborate on this for any sympathy but it looks like you're in for a frosty weekend.   ;)  :)

Why should you be in trouble ??

You were ASKED, you said no, well within the rules ... if someone ASKS you to do something you have the right to refuse. Now, if you said "yes" then failed to do it .. different story ...

A request is NOT an order .. :) :)

Not looking for sympathy at all.

Reason being: I had 2 weeks off work, one week took the family away on holiday. second week spent at home on little jobs and told my son leave the car here one day and I will check out what pads you need (Astra mk4, choice of 2 pads) He was to busy to leave car. So I said lets look at it one evening, no he has a social life, and I cannot interfere with that. Many days go by of me offering to do the job. Says he is busy etc. Now this is an 18 year old with a regular girlfriend who also has a car so transport is not a problem. Also if he left car at home I could have dropped him off at work done the job and picked him up again.
He is an apprentice plant fitter, you would think he knows a bit by now.

To top it off, he is going on holiday in 7 days time, and needs the car to drive to Gatwick. I am now back at work, and will be working with customers quite late into the evenings every night next week.

And the end of the day it would have taken about 20 minutes max to take a wheel off drop a pad out to see if it is Lucas or Girling or whatever. I could then have got the parts easily in good time. Now it is all panic between him and the wife, So I said I am at work, you get it sorted, don't ask me anymore.

As said, no sympathy please, in a small way I am quite proud of myself for finally saying no to them. There is quite a list of previous issues starting with his moped, first car and now this car.

I am not being tight here, I paid his first car insurance at £3300.00, and then I paid his second car insurance at £2400.00. Add to that his grandmother bought his first car, his grandfather on the wifes side bought the second car, is it to much to expect him to put aside a social life for one evening to get his car sorted.

Sorry rant over, little scrote can suffer for all I care now  ;D

I think you are spot on....had the same here with my lad before he got married. Even left a non running car on my drive, till one day, I just got up, went and hired a low loader trailer, winched it on, drove 50 miles to Bicester and dropped it on his drive. Lots of bad feeling to start with, but then the penny dropped !!! :y

In my opinion, stick with it....he seems to have had it well easy to date !!!!!! >:(

Trouble his mum can see no wrong in him at all. I would love kick his backside, but she would complain. The one time I "grabbed him by the throat" and threatened to end his life (was about the only time I have ever lost control of myself), she cried.

Generally I can put up with a lot, and have done. But there is a breaking point and between mother and son they have crossed that line.

What is it they, mums and sons, dads and daughters, and I ended up with two sons  ::) Both the little darlings go running to mummy, and she believes every word they say.

Believe me bud, I know exactly what your going threw  :( :(

Me and the missus have been together 21 years (yesterday)
When we met, I also took on her 2 1/2 year old lad.
Due to circumstances before we met, she wrapped him up in cotton wool and every time he screemed, she came running  ::) >:(

As he got older, he learnt to play me and his mother off against each other to the point that with all the sh*t going on, my business going to the dogs and money problems I ended up having a total breakdown and nearly killing swmbo's brother who kept sticking his nose in  :-[

We split up for 6 months and when we sorted things out, the little bast*rd spat his dummy out and f*cked off.
Swmbo has seen him maybe 5 or 6 times in the last 5 years  :( :(

And guess what, ITS ALL MY FAULT  >:( >:( >:(

Sounds fair enough to me. If you want a favour off someone it has to be on their terms, surely?

Tell him to go to a main dealer and pay for the privilege if he wants it done when you're busy. :y

Stick to what you have said,if he can't be arsed to leave the car for an evening then let him suffer, pads don't last forever and maybe he might learn the hard way, when he hits the brakes, pedal goes flat to floor and he don't stop,he had the chance and blew it,il do them for £500 lol  :y

Yep, leave the lad to sort them out himself. He has had too much handed out on a plate as someone else said.

As for the wife, remove your conjugal rights - she will soon come round. ;D

If he can run a car then he should be able to afford to have it maintained or learn to do it himself. :-\
