company pensions
« on: 24 July 2012, 10:16:33 »

I was forced to join vickers rolls Joyce pension scheme with the company i was employed with 30 yrs ago. just had a letter from them asking if it was me living at this address. i forgot all about it and paid in for about 3yrs. Is it worth anything and cash it in.

almost certainly is worth something and potentially quite a bit

basically they are trying to see if you are still alive, so my suggestion is to respond and ask them for a statement of current benefits.

As to cashing it in - there are strict rules on doing that and generally speaking it is only possible if it is very small.  Best to get the details of what the potential pension is first and take it from there.

If they make you an offer to transfer it elsewhere, it may be a good deal but also think why they are making you an offer, it could be in their interest as well
