Your recommendations please for a sat nav
« on: 12 April 2008, 11:06:19 »

Hi all. I'm looking for a new sat nav as mine decided it didn't wana be passenger any more & jumped out the window  ;)
So i'm looking for your recommedations for a new one.
I'm not looking for spending above £100.00, but i would like one with speed camera locations & i'm not bothered about European maps.
Your thoughts please.

PS I would prefer to have one that knows where it is  ;D ;D & not directing me into farmers fields etc  >:( >:(

Ive tried a few satnav systems and the best i feel is tomtom, though not flawless (has tried to send me up a one way street before) its the best of the bunch

Though unless you go second hand getting one for sub £100 is gonna be hard

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10651&storeId=10001&langId=-1&productId=260869&p1=38270&p2=31284

Using the voucher prices the Tomtom one starts at £109 dunno if your budget would stretch to that.

Basically -- you DO get what you pay for with sat nav --- TomTom use OS mapping or an equivalent whereas the cheaper systems use two students on their annual holidays noting down routes on a scrap of paper -- which is later fed into the mapping system!

I have been using Tom Tom for 4 years now and have never been sent down any erroneous route

I can`t afford a Sat-Nav of my own; but have been passenger in a Subaru with 'factory' (VDO?) Sat-Nav and wasn`t impressed; as it repeatedly tried to send us from North Wales to Essex: via Swansea!!!! (and that was the fastest/shortest route!)  :o
