automatic gearbox help.
« on: 02 August 2012, 17:00:04 »

hi all. i have a 2.2 cd auto estate. 02 year, i have noticed a few probs latley with the gear box. firstly . sometimes when it is in drive its as if it pops out of gear so what i have to do is take it out of drive and put it into 3 then back into drive again then its ok.only usually happens 1st thing in the morning. has done it about 3 times. second. now that it hasent done the above for a little while it now seams to hold 1st gear for to long before it changes into second and my foot isnt pressed hard down on the accelerator. these issues only happen when i first get into the car in the morning when im goin to work and when leaving work. seams to be ok when its warm. any feedback would be great full. many thanks

Try checking the fluid levels in the gearbox first :y

On first start up from cold the gearbox will hold first gear slightly longer than usual to allow the catalytic converter to heat up quicker, this is quite normal, once warmed up the gear change should be smoothe reaching lockup at about 45mph.

As said check ATF level - if its very low it won't engage gears!!

Did you follow the procedure as per the guide ?.......engine running, move shift lever through all gears a couple of times, then put it in park and with engine still running check the ATF level with the car on level ground.

As long as you had the car running and level when you checked, you have done it correct :y

Go through all the gears several times then check fluid level again with car level and engine running..fingers crossed that was you probelm before :y
