Firstly, sorry for the length of the post, just trying to give as much info as I can 

I've f**ked up bigtime 

I've run a Samsung phone for the last 2 years and tbh, it worked ok.
Over the last 2 years, i've bluetoothed onto it about 50 comic ringtones and video's which I have just tried to transfare over to the phones external sd card with the intention of sticking the tones onto the laptop and transfairing then onto my new iphone4 via itunes.

Went into file manager on the andriod phone and moved them across one by one onto the external sd card.

Right, this is where it went tits up.
Finished moving files, de paired from the phone, poped it into the laptop only to find sweet f**k all there 

Went back to the android phone only to find that they have totally disapeared from there too 

Right, I think I know were I buggered up.
I believe I should have created a seperate folder on the external sd then transfaired them onto the that.

Right, they must be on the external sd card somewhere  (used space has shot up) but can I hell as find them 

Any idea's please

Do a wildcard search.

For example, if the ringtones were in mp3 format then search the drive for *.mp3

Right, found them and stored them in a new folder on my desktop so I don't loose the buggers again 

Next stupid question.    Do you need to convert the mp3 file into AAC before you can drag them across into itunes ringtones folder ?

I have tried dragging them across ect but it won't play ball

The supported MP3 formats for ringtones are:

Single channel, 16bit, 16KHz sample rate

Single channel, 32 bit, 32KHz sample rate

Anything else will have to get converted to AAC and then renamed with the .m4r extension to get it to show as a ringtone.

I have already downloaded a freebee app that you can clip the track to 30 seconds then email it to yourself so you can drag it across that way.  It works a treat but the track must be on your phone to start with

iTunes can do this, just change the format it imports to and re-import the file

As Tunnie says, the POS software known as iTunes can convert your MP3's to AAC and then it's simply a case a renaming the file extension before you import using iTunes
