Carpet out - easy?
« on: 02 August 2012, 20:10:29 »

Due to a last-minute change of plans, I'm finally hoping to get my interior sorted this weekend. I'm fine taking the seats out (after disconnecting the battery and leaving for 20 minutes, correct?) - how easy is it to get the carpet out? I plan on giving it a damn good scrub and hanging it out to dry...

No need to wait 20mins. Just don't turn ign on with seats disconnected.

Carpets fairly straightforward, though IIRC, centre console has to come out due to way carpet is hung from pins.

If its beige carpet, I tried with some (really dirty) ones, and they looked worse afterwards. I guess if I'd persevered, it would have been more successful.

They are shaped, so a bit of a pain to clean.

The carpet is in three separate bits:

1) Drivers side front
2) Pass side front
3) Rear

The joint is under the seats.

Saloon & estate carpets are the same  :y

Exactly so, but you don't need to remove the console (well I didn't) :y

Front seats out, plastic inner cill trims out, undo lower seatbelt mounting, both front carpets have a loop hooked on retaining tab under centre console, quick tug will break the loop, re-fitting just a case of tucking carpet under console :)

Watch out though, carpet can shrink making it difficult to get back in (according to Ed China!)
