I'd try draining out the old oil and replacing with the correct grade, 10w/40 semi, may as well chuck a new oil filter at it at the same time...

5w30 is still within the grades specified for the engine and just a top-up wouldn't have made much difference when mixed with the oil already in the engine, IMHO. I only use 5w30 in mine and it's perfectly OK.

Is it the top end of the engine that's noisy?
Any particular side of the engine or all banks?
Does it disappear with a few revs or is it there at revs in addition to idle?
Worse when cold, or hot?
How low had the oil got when you topped it up? Low enough to lose oil pressure?

Could well be a noisy hydraulic tappet. If the engine has not had a good oil change history it might be worth a few quick oil changes with the cheap stuff (10w40 on trade club) at intervals of 1000 miles or so. If that doesn't cure it put some hydraulic lifter additive in and run it for a normal oil change interval.

thank you all for the info its great advice.
the tapping starts soon as the car is started and does not go away and it comes from the right side of engine. :'(
