what's the quickest time an engine swap has been done in......

swapping ancills once the old lump is out.

No complications such as LPG ect.

I've had one out on a stand within 45 minutes of arriving home with the engine hoist.

Oh, did I mention that it wasn't a V6 nor an Omega?..  :-X

I think wisdom we gained during the tractor episode is that it's probably a good idea to mount the gearbox to the engine first and put the two in together rather than try to offer the engine up to the gearbox. ::) This would be even more prudent with a V6 where access will be more restricted than on the tractor.

Sorry but this thread seems like a joke :-?

A bit of friendly rivalry Cem. ;)

Mark DTM is well known for his quick cambelt replacements and I think Loo-Knee thinks he's quicker. ::)

Apparantly he is, but not at cambelt changes!

 ;D ;D ;D

Well, had to be said. ::)

It was bad enough with the slant 6 tractor engine and that gave good access to the bellhousing right round one side. I would take the gearbox out, get it all mounted to the engine and put the 2 in together. Front of the car will need to be up on ramps at a guess, but I'm sure we wouldn't have had anything like the hassle if we'd done that.

You could probably mount the exhaust manifolds and starter, etc. on the engine first as well, meaning a few less fiddly ancillaries to put on later, whereas if you were trying to line it up with the gearbox you'd want all that off the engine.

Less chance of mullering the torque converter or seal too.

Its easier to pop the donk out of a V6....its half the length so much more rome to shift it.

It is easier with the box on.

True. I'd forgotten it is 2.5 cylinders shorter.

It took 6 if us several hours to fit engine with gearbox in car.  A week weeks later, it took LFF64 and I about 90 mins with geaarbox attached outside of car.

I guess you didn't have the gazebo of periodic soaking to deal with though. >:(
