CDX leather interior to 2003 53 GLS
« on: 10 August 2012, 11:43:33 »

Hi everyone

I have a 2003 53 plate 2.2 16v GLS saloon, and I've just bought a complete leather interior from a 2001 Y plate CDX saloon to go in it,  it all fits fine but the electrical connector on the car doesn't have the same amount of wires going to it as the seat!  The motors work fine, the airbag light isn't on and the switches light up in the dash when you turn on the heaters,  but the heaters don't work, presumably because the loom is there to connect them up.

Does anybody know if there is an extra piece of loom that I need? or shall I just put with not having the heaters working?

What colour are the extra wires on the "seat side" of the connector that are missing on the "car loom side"? I'll look it up for you.

You only need to do one seat as I'm assuming the same wires are missing on both?

The vehicle loom is assembled in sections - so it's possible that the bit from the pass side kick panel to the seat is not there. I helped someone do this on a MFL car and it worked straight away.

Didn't think GLS had seat heaters?

The colours that are missing are as follows

there is one 2 pin connector with a brown and a black wire, both thick wires and the connector is grey, and there's a smaller 2 pin green connector with 1 black and green wire and one black and yellow wire, both much thinner wires.

Behind the trim in the drivers side footwell there is an unused plug with 6 cables running to it, including all of these colours except black and yellow, but I can't find a similar plug on the passenger side in the same position.  I have spoken to the person I bought the seats from, and he promised to look at the car to see if any extra bits of loom were there, but he hasn't got back to me yet.

I've also looked at a friend's CDX estate, which has the same front seats fitted, and it has all these wires running to the seats, so I presume the GLS loom is missing the wires.

any help would be much appreciated

Ok, the thick brown/black wires are the power supply to the seat heaters. They are fed from fuse 15 which is rated @ 20 Amps. This must be supplied to each seat. Brown is negative and black positive. The cable size is 1mm.

The black/green & black/yellow wires are from the heated seat control module (inside the seat) upto the heated seat switches.

On the pass seat the black/green wire needs to be connected to the black/green cable on the back of the connector behind the heated seat switch. It should be pin 5 on the connector. The black/yellow wire needs to be connected to the black/red wire on that same connector - pin 2.

For the drivers seat switch - black/green from the seat will go to the black/blue wire on pin 5. Black/yellow needs to connect to black/yellow on pin 2.

Hopefully the sockets for the switches are in place in the dash - and should have 5 connections each. If they are then it supports my theory that the dash loom wiring has the heated seat wiring in place but the cabin loom does not.

If the seat socket wiring is missing - all is not lost - just becomes a tad more interesting.  :D

I can't speak for the 6 pin connector you have found you might be able to use the thick brown/black wires if they connect to F15. Again, all is not lost if not as I have a plan b as to where you can get the power from.

Finally, the thick wires will be carrying about 6 amps per seat, so need to be joined properly - NO SCOTCHBLOCKS   please.  >:(. The thin wires are control and carry very little current - but still need to be joined in a tidy manner - the OOF preferred method being soldering/heatshrink.

Let us know how you get on.

Depends totally on what cabin loom was fitted in the factory. I've also fitted heated seats to a GLS and they worked 1st time - but on others the cabling wasn't there.

My wiring diagrams are the GM official wiring diagrams for the Omega.
