 it seems like the petrols are all quite similar in consumption with the diesels maybe 10-15 mpg more.

for my 2lt I get around around 25 due to my 'spirited' driving style.  That said, even driving like an old man rarely see's over 30!

My 1998 2.5 TD Auto gets an average of about 29mpg even if I drive like an undertaker

Mostly short journeys though

My old diesel 405 Pug used to get 55 even when driving like it was stolen!

2.6v6 MV6 10,9000 on clock, last five years 89,000 miles and the computer says 24.6mpg ave.

Took my 3.0 V6 Elite for a little drive today 260 mile round trip and 98% of it was motorway. I set the cruse at 75mph and only come off it once and i got 32.6MPG

I get 20mpg in my 1998 2.5 106000 miles estate around town.

I reckon auto vs manual costs about 5 mpg for mixed driving (very little difference if any on mway).   2.0 or 2.2 with manual is probably closest to diesel economy (aside from LPG of course)

My trip computer says 19.8 just now, however with careful driving i can see over 40mpg on the motorway at about 60mph, but its not unusual to see single figures when overtaking.
