I suppose when one breathes the rarefied atmosphere of foreign policy, diplomacy and strategic positioning one can accept that such aid may well bring benefit to the benefactors at some point – assuming of course that the aid is not being made available purely on grounds of humanitarianism.

The problem with operating at such high levels is that it removes one’s sensibilities to allow one to concentrate on the notional rather than on the practical: Such is the failing with much of government/Establishment policy - there is a distinct lack of practical substance to it.

I would imagine it doesn’t pay those high flyers who manage such things to question much, as the fall from grace (from these heights) is both ignominious and painful.

So, it’s a case of allowing the status quō by thinking of England (and that more than reasonable pension when the toils of service are finished) and laying claim to that gong (so jealously sought) to bolster one’s regard for one’s self in that job well done.

In any case, it’s always nice to shafted by people with a smile on their faces – as many of those in New Delhi undoubtedly have.

I would stop all overseas aid immediately, charity begins at home lets start with our pensioners, and proper treatment for cancer patients. :y :y

Aid for natural disasters is acceptable, but I don't care about the starving in the third world, I might if they stop breeding. I don't care if millions die in Africa from HIV/AIDS just don't bring it here, oh! and they still breed. Billions to Afganistan, what for? to grow poppies and keep corrupt tribal leaders in power. Aid to Pakistan WHY? they hate us, have nuclear bombs and we feed them.

You couldn't make up, our economy is FUBAR yet we donate to despot nations  >:( >:(

Rant over, blood pressure coming down  ;D ;D
