My new (03) motor has a 2005 Radio CD player in it (Not sure of the letter (CCR2005?)

What are my options to upgrade it? Car is a CD 2.2

Would there be any complications?

Or is it worth considering an after market double din unit with a 7" screen that has sat nav onit, only problem I could see is I would still like to use the steering wheel controls. Are there any isues going this upgrade (or is it an upgrade (sound wise) compared to standard fitted equipment)

As far as I know ccr signifies tape player, CD player would be cdr...

Best factory upgrade would be a Bose set-up and an NCDC2013/15 with a colour screen, same as the setup in my '02 Mv6 .

If you want to go aftermarket then you should be able to get a nice Pioneer set up with satnav for around £500.

If you want to go aftermarket then you should be able to get a nice Pioneer set up with satnav for around £500.

See where your going on the model numbers, would be a CDR500 that is fitted then.

Would be nice to upgrade to the top of the range gear but I would know how to even start fitting it all.

Looking round at the double din sat nav units they all seem to have the blue tooth, USB and jach plug inputs, along with also being DVD they have TV upgrades, and options to fit things like rear view camera's etc, plus the added preouts for amp options.

CDR2005 = Radio/CD player

CCR2006 = Radio/Cassette deck/4 disc cd changer

Personally, i wouldnt bother using aftermarket crap, stick a CCR2006 in and you have a 4 disc changer and you can use the tape deck with a tape adaptor to plug your external sources in such as iPod, phone, mp3 player ect ect, plus if you start using aftermarket sound systems, you will, 9 times out of 10, loose your display and steering wheel controls and SDVC.

Putting all the factory satnav, colour screen, Bose ect as an upgrade, is a headache.

But, each to thier own and all that

The 2005 unit is shite, its really weak. Just replacing that with a decent modern unit, and the sound improves considerably.

Do that, then if you want more, upgrade the speakers.

I've fitted infinity components in the standard holes in mine and it makes a big difference

No need. The CD changer is the lower half of the double DIN unit.

A side effect is that you can only get the CD cartridge out if the gear lever is in a rearward position. No problem in a manual but with an auto you need the ignition on and the brake pedal pressed before you can move the lever back to change the CDs

Looked one up to see what they looked like, once I realised it was all built in to the double din unit I forgot to post back to mention it.

Might keep my eye open in the for sale section.

But at least you don't have to go outside in the rain to get the cartridge out of the boot

But as the superior PFL has a changer with a useful number of disks in it, and is far more happy with CDRs, it needs changing far less than the unreliable, limited inferior FL one...
