Well this is a real mystery, Vx have had the car for 2 days and they do not know what the problem is, the knocking is getting worse when the car is started from cold, the knocking goes after about 20 seconds never to be heard again, only happens when starting from cold. The car runs sweet, no issues at all. Regular oil changes etc etc.
I have looked on the forum to see if anyone has the same issue and there are a few but none have been resolved, if any of you guys have managed to sort the knocking out could you advise.
Vx say it could be the manifold but thats all they have said, they did say leave the car with them and they will strip is down and investigate, big bucks, i would rater do it myself.

Where is the knocking from? Bottom end?

If so, DMF if it's manual? We've had a few autos with fractured driveplates too, and also missing bellhousing bolts, IIRC.

If it's more of a pinking top-end sound, I've seen cars where the MAF has failed, they are running lean at cold idle and are coughing back up the intake. This causes the throttles to hammer closed, making a knocking noise.

Then there's hydraulic tappets.. Not what I'd describe as a knocking, but could they be noisy initially? Noises are very hard to diagnose remotely.

Cheers Kevin, the knocking seems to be top end drivers side, your right about diagnosing, I say knocking but it could also be described as a rattleing, like putting a marble into a tin can and giving it a shake, as said the car runs spot on, its only when starting from cold for about 20 seconds or so. Very strange :-\ :-\
