Whats the deal if you get caught with an out of date tax disc?

If "on the road" a fine plus pay any backtax due from expiry date

Up to a £1000 fine,or five times the cost of the tax which ever is the greatest plus a fine.

I have seen vehicles clamped by guys in the big truck, but not carted away. Done a bit of work for a dvla clamp unit and asked for a favour. Had a wreck dumped in our close with no tax. The reply to moving it was that time limits apply.

The other morning I came out to go to work (around 7am) and a DVLA van was driving all around the estate with a camara on each corner (like the Google car) taking pictures of every vehicle he could find. Even went into to doctor's surgery and filmed a car behind a bush. The tinkers are looking for cash!

No, they are looking for cars that do not have an MOT or TAX, add insurance into that and get my vote anytime..... :y :y :y

I know they can seize uninsured vehicles,but not sure about untaxed tbh. :-\

VED is a tax like any other tax.I would guess that most of us would refrain from paying other taxes if we could get away with it,so for me not paying tax to  use a car is one I might also avoid paying if it were reasonably possible to do so. Its not though,so no point in trying.
Insurance & MOT,obviously a different matter altogether.
