It seems obvious to me: you've 2 pedals, and 2 feet.

I don't know anyone who drives an auto with just one foot.

Foot on foot off danialsun  ;D :y

I left foot brake in manuals when I feel the need, but tend to only use one foot in autos, which I suppose is odd.

It had speed adjustment built into the board and I talked the fitter into turning the wick up to max. The result was a 45mph forklift. :o :)
It lasted a week before my boss got them back to turn it back down.It was a lot of fun while it lasted though. ;D ;D

Ours are (nearly) all restricted to 3mph. A few months ago, a couple of employees were sacked after they'd been on line to find out how to de-restrict their FLTs. They never thought about the fact that we need our own electrickey card to allow the FLT to run .........  ???

Ah yes, obvious. That's why I have 3 feet - cos I drive a manual. And when in an auto I drive one footed.

These were diesel engined.engine drove some type of electric motors at the front wheels.Motors were controlled by a "brain",which was ok until the concrete dust found its way in there and crerated havoc.Hence the experimentation. Still well remember lifting the inside front wheel of the ground by quite a few inches on corners,no lifting of the throttle -ever,and getting it sideways in the wet with lots of opposite lock and right foot always buried.. Superb machines. Then they changed them for Boss sideloaders. Hateful, hideous, cumbersome, contraptions. ::)

I always use left foot for breaking in an auto. Often do the same in my Cavalier (manual) while doing clutchless gearchanges. ;)
Dont see why left foot braking should be a reason to fail the test in an auto, unless your dim enough to do it while the right foot is still on the throttle pedal. :-\

If its a DBW throttle, you will probably find the ECU will cut the throttle anyway when you hit the brake with the left foot even if your right foot is firmly planted on the throttle. Both my 2.2 auto Omega and my 1.8 Veccy manual used to do this  :y

Some time ago there was a Government TV campaign to remind auto drivers to drive only with the right foot..... :-\ :-\ my left foot was trained for a clutch and tends to be rather heavy when tried as a brake foot on an auto...... :-X  And for the other opinions, I can heal and toe, not much point in daily use generally, and I used to, many years ago, change gear in a number of fords without the clutch, never drove Vx in my early days....... :D :D :D

Not tried it this Merc, but that's definitely the case of her Smart & the auto Astra she used to have.  :y

although it might have been over 30 yrs ago now, I did learn & take my test in a manual ......  ;) ;) ;) But I've now driven an auto for long enough that I've managed to re-train my left foot.  :y :y
Never tried heal & toe.
I too have changed gear without use of a clutch, (clutch once stuck & I had to to get home) although I think that when cars drove the rear wheels & your gear lever was directly in the gear box, clutchless changes were/are easier, when there's a cable in between as in my Astra, clutchless changes weren't as easy.  :y :y

Absolutely Andy.... :y :y   Just got me thinking now and it is about 8 years ago since went fully auto, I did have a previous auto car in the 90's when I also used to do a bit of 'mini cabbing' in London as a sideline... :D :D

yes, two feet for two pedals is bad practice in the extreme and will lead to test failure at all levels.

it's probably to do with both pedals being to the right of the column, which means on a lot of vehicles, you're not going to get your left foot from a rest position and past the column quickly and easily. Bad news in an emergency

Have a look in the footwell of some of your cars, I doubt you'll even see the steering column, it's not visible in an Omega or an R Class  ;) You certainly don't move your left foot passed the column from the foot rest to the pedal.
