A job for today
« on: 07 September 2012, 05:05:54 »

I had some time this night while at work to read ABS/TC lights problems in many many treads on forum here. I noticed a suggestion to check break light bulbs too, don't know why but it seems connected somehow.....in a way.
See, today as many times before, ABS light turned on few seconds after engine started, it was on till I restarted the car again then went off for some 20 min and all over again.
Did anyone have this symptoms when ABS ECU was fubar :
(ALWAYS) cassette deck stops working when ABS light turns on
(SOMETIMES) when pressing brake pedal ABS light goes out
(ALWAYS) when ABS light is on, windows won't work, vent isn't working, all gauges down, comp tells me I have for 25 miles fule only and
All the dashboard seeems to get extra brightness
THIS led me to conclusion something else could be wrong beside ABS ECU
When I checked voltage supply I got very confuding readings - no abs light 14 - 14,1V....abs light on 17,3 - 17,5V
Also lights on the dasboard are flashing a bit - a sign that ABS light will apear
Did anyone with fubar abs ecu experience all of this symptoms? It becomes a bit frustrating now and would like to sort this out. Thanks in advance for all your suggestions guys

17v = faulty regulator in alternator.

Replace it before it destroys all the electrical components and ECUs in the car :o

Being a 4 pot, if Bosch alternator fitted, this is the regulator needed

Yeah, 17v will be the cause of all the electrical gremlins. Sort it quickly.

Its likely, if its been like it for a while, the battery will be pretty knackered as well.

So...150e later omega has new alternator fitted, Bosch - much bigger than before

Old alternator had melted soldered contacts (!) couldn't believe my eyes. The electrician said that it's common for those Delcos to have an overheating problems but I never thought it could melt anything.
I hope the fault is fixed for now, thank you guys for all your help  :y
