Tunnie - if theres one thing the EU dont mind doing its spending money.They spend eye watering amounts of it on the most ludicrous things imaginable every day of every week. They really dont have any connection at all with the reality of planet earth over in Brussells. You may naively and logically question where they would find the money in the current climate. They will simply raise it from yet more taxes on member states.Even now,they see no reason at all not to do so.
On a similar note,MP,s in westminster have the gravy train back up to full speed again. Their expenses last year rose by 25%  bringing them back to almost the level they were at before they were exposed as a bunch of common thieves in 2009.

"Meddling Brussels bureaucrats" as the sh1ite mail puts it, are MEPs - with the 4th largest number being British. Number of MEPs is based on population of country. Not saying that it's right - money spent etc, but this Brussels thing that everybody goes on about - in other countries too - is just bollacks. Every EU country has representives there.

Concerning the point made, there have been other ideas within the motoring industry branded around in past, but when strongly opposed to in an organised fashion such as petitions and letters sent from motoring organisations and publications / clubs stating a case against the idea, this has been taken into account and the "new law" never passed.

Perhaps the motoring enthusiats / publications / clubs / organisations should all react to the news in a constructive way to fight against it - no politician will in their right mind knowingly go out of their way to piss off millions of people in one go. Yes, politicians do piss millions of people off, but i'd imagine not when there are petitions with hundreds and hundreds of thousands of signatures opposing an idea. They want to keep their jobs.

They tried to do the same a few years a go with motorbikes.

MAG and the BMF joined forces with other European bike groups and did a slow ride around Brussels for two days causing total grid lock. The legislation was quietly dropped.

Yes, but we only have 72 MEPs out of a total of 736, and of those only 11 are UKIP. Of the rest, there is a mixture of Greens (would vote in favour), LibDems (Ditto), plus Labout, Tory and a few independents (none of whom can be relied upon to rebel!).

Given the way the EU operates, it doesn't necessarily matter how many petitions are signed, it could still end up as law.
