Teachers to go on strike?
« on: 07 September 2012, 15:06:23 »

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) said that 82.5% of the members who voted were in favour of walkouts.

The turnout was 27%...

Meaning that just 22% of the NUT membership are calling the shots. Union democracy at its best.  ::) ::)

But its great when the kids are not at school - no useless Mum's dropping their fat, ugly kids off in the car, getting in my bloody way.

School holidays reduce my morning commute time by 20-30mins on average, making my morning commute around 45mins :D

Bring it on, I say....

I don't believe that many sensible and intelligent people withdraw their labour without good cause, Nick.

Maybe the teachers feel their concerns are being ignored. :y

No. If they went on strike, people wouldn't be able to spell.

And night follows day. They must be after the BL record for strikes. Still I guess with only 13 weeks holiday a year they really do need a few more days off.  ::) ::) ::)

Well that excludes about 75% of all teachers then  ;)

Maybe teachers should take a look in the mirror and ask themselfs why the kids are really doing so bad  ;)

Imho, give all schools "academy status" and let the heads hire the teachers who know how to teach and can comunicate with the kids .................. and fire the lazy, self opinionated vermin who have infested out classrooms for the last 30 years  :y

Hugs and kisses too all  :-* :-* :-*

Maybe some parents also need that mirror. Education starts at home - not the academic sort, the other. It is so so easy these days for parents to criticise schools, teachers etc, but do they ever question themselves. Some do, I know, but I think they are the minority.

The world is competitive and getting more and more so, but no competition is allowed in UK state schools. This is from sports days to academic prizes. How is a child going to discover what they best at without comparing that skill to those around them in a competitive environment? Where is the carrot to spur them on?

People have different abilities, but classes are no longer streamed, brighter get bored and play around, thicker can't keep up, so drop out and play up even more. Teachers are often happy when either of theses two groups play truant as they have an easier time in class. Poor parents of all groups will always side with their children, however outrageous their behaviour   against the school teachers and authorities. They always believe the child's side and have the attitude, "my little Johnny would't do that".

The school bullies set the pace where it is uncool to work hard, so all too many don't so they don't get bullied.

Bad teachers are virtually impossible to sack.

Isn't our socialist education system wonderful where it is dropping like a stone in the world standards leagues while all the time grade inflation hides this.

Ukraine is a poor country, education standards aren't great, but children realise that qualifications are a route to escape poverty, which is one of the reasons why is has the 4th best educated population in the world. Family life is still very much centered on families, where most children from an early age are expected to help with the chores.Yes, they do have bad families (especially if one or both parents are alcoholics), with bad children, but they seem to have better methods with dealing with this with 'special schools' for bad disruptive pupils.

Which goes to show that money and resources aren't the solution and a replacement for good teaching methods and class discipline, good school and family ethos and the effective isolation of disruptive pupils. My wife's as a teacher, most effective put down to children or adults is telling them to stop behaving like a little girl or boy in a quiet but forceful way and it does stop bad behaviour in both.

I'm the first to slag off some of the inbread mongs that have given birth to kids over the last 20 years.

Me, personally i'm a old school parent who thinks its my duty to bring my lad up in the best way I know fit and stuff the political correct social worker types who are more interested in the human rights act then doing whats right for the kids in the long term and prepareing them for the real word out there.
My methods are a mixture of the way my parents brought me up with a little fine tuning by myself.

With my son, i'm his best mate or his worst enemy.  That is upto him. If he wants respect, its upto him to ern it. Not the other way round.

If more parents took my attitude (and a fair few on here) to being a father then the world would be a far better place.

Teaching is not just a case of reading what it says is in the national curiculam notes for that subject.
Imo, they are there not only to teach but also to set a example to follow in life.

For instance, one of the first things a teacher is taught nowdays is "classroon control".
Not how to teach, more like how to keep the kids quite.

If you look at the league tables, Hull has been one of the worst areas in the UK for years.
Our local LEA has being ruled by labour party and union fanatics for donkeys years.
In the past few years, some of our schools have being granted academy status.
Within 2 or 3 years, these schools have managed to turf out the scum who imitate teachers and bring in teacher "on merit" and pay them acordingly.
Now days, these academy's results are a match for pretty much any area in the country.
Needless to say, the schools which are still run by the local LEA are well down the league tables.
In fact most of them are dropping even futher down.
Also it should be note that these academy's have not been built in the better off areas of my city.
The majority have been built on the council estates where most of the inbreads of this city live.

This is not a slur on the good teachers of this country who deep down inside, want to help the kids.
Its a slur on the tossers who call themself teachers who would rather toss it off and enjoy a quite life on the picket line.

I tend to concur with most of what you say, though I think your generalisation of social workers is about 30 years out of date........but that is just my view..... :) :)

The main point of your comment to me is the teaching of classroom control.........In my opinion you can not teach this nor can you teach a teacher how to teach........yes some of the practical things but either you can hold the attention of a group of children or you can't..............in my opinion you can not be taught this you either have it or you do not..... :y :y and no, I am not a Teacher :D :D

Incidentally I just ran a spell check...............I think some members should re visit their teachers.... :D :D :D :P :P :P
