Probably spend too much time browsing the forum than actually working on the car!    Anyway, just in the process of putting the engine back together (it is a long process as I'm only doing it for enjoyment when I'm in the mood, and on nice days like today outside). I was pondering on the HBV and its awkward position, and thought perhaps it could be moved for ease of access in the future.


This pic shows the HBV at the back of the engine. Luckily I have my other Miggy to refer to (good old workhorse esate and still going strong despite a few knocks and bruises), and strangely enough I found this -



- A relocated HBV of a different type. The 'formed' pipes go to the heater matrix and the coolant transfer pipe tee respectively, as you would expect. I've never seen mention of this alternative version within the pages of this forum, so thought I'd post and see if anyone knows about it or has seen it before? Control looks to be electricaly operated solenoid (no vacuum pipes) with the cable looking to be going off to the battery / relay area via the front of rad (and neatly incorporated into existing flexible conduits).

As Albs says. Auxiliary heater pump used to get warm air into the car while sat with the ignition off by pushing the auto button

As far as I'm aware, there should still be a HBV even with the Auxiliary Heater Pump fitted?

Ah.... that clears things up a bit thanks - didn't want to go taking the scuttle off to find out for sure, so guess HBV is still where it usually is.

yes, it's the auxiliary coolant pump.

it isn't really there for pumping after engine shut-down, although it is a useful by-product. It's there to pump coolant through the heater matrix in order to boost its performance.

 I thought that was the pump located on the top right of the rad and the one in question was for heating the interior of the car. I'm surprised its used for cooling as its not fitted to all Omegas

It uses the same bracket as the cruise so i've found with the breakers that if cruise is fitted the pump generally isn't

That's what I'd been told, but it seems that some PFL cars have the aux heater/coolant pump

Aux coolant pump was, I believe, part of Winter Pack, for pumping warm coolant around heater matrix without engine running.

mine is fitted on radiator on n/s even though it has cruise
