EGR, 2.5 Diesel Engine.
« on: 14 September 2012, 12:29:18 »

Hello All,
This is a bit of a newbie question sorry, I havn't had time to search through the posts if this has been answered before, so sorry if it has and please do not hesitate to point out where, thanks.

On my old car a Mitsubishi Delica 2.8 TD, there was an exhaust gas re circulation system where hot gasses were re-circulated in to the intake, most owners closed off this system because it caused major over heating in the engine and it worked much better when this was done.

My question is, does this system exist on the X25DT engine?
Is it possible to block it off?
Do people in general block this off to prevent overheating?
Am I talking absolute rubbish because there isnt and EGR on this engine.
Cheers and all the best.

Yup, has EGR. But it doesn't cause overheating. EGR asissts with economy on diesels, so worth leaving in place if possible.

Overheating normally caused by poor service record, knackered waterpump, or silted radiator.

I have never been a fan of the EGR system so I spent the afternoon removing the pipe and placing blanking plates in place, the engine does run a bit cooler, approx 3-5 degrees cooler.  Also I noticed there was a loose hose on to the turbo, now fixed, and drives a little better.
I will get round to putting a nice tube on, as found in the post here:

Thanks for the input though TB.
