Fault codes 1612/1613
« on: 14 September 2012, 22:03:56 »

Started the car this evening as normal and went to take off and it stalled with the service light flashing. This happened twice so I did pedal trick and its showing codes 1612 1613?? What do I need to do to sort this??

P1612 Immobiliser No Or Wrong Signal Immobiliser
P1613 Immobiliser No Or Wrong Signal Immobiliser

this with the eml flashing means the immobilisor "thinks" the transponder is missing.

Take the key apart CAREFULLY and check the transponder chip  is still seated in its correct location ... I had problems with my old 2.5 where the chip was loose and sometimes was not where it needed to be .. a blob of superglue and everything was fixed !!

If the chip is seated properly then it sounds like the receiver in the steering wheel area has a problem .. :(

Lost the chip out of the key?

Engine would not have started in that case ... would it ???

I had a brand new key programmed at Vauxhall a few years ago for SWMBO's Astra G. The key obviously came with chip, but it wouldn't talk to the immobiliser properly, the car would start & run for a few seconds & then die. A N Other chip programmed OK though.  :y

That sounds very like my loose transponder chip ... sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't ... On one occasion the AA were called . the car towed to a garage at which point it then started perfectly ... :(

The loose chip only came to light because on an occasion when it wouldn't start I dropped the key whilst messing with the phone, and when I tried it again it worked instantly .. got me thinking something weird .. so took the fob apart and voila .. there was the problem .. :)

My thoughts are .. in hindsight .. that the chip was moving whilst the key was in my pocket ... and sometimes it was in the right place .. others it wasn't .....

Cheers entwood, cant be bothered doing it tonight, I'll give it a blast in the morning. Seems I've been having a few problems with my keys lately, is it possible to get a new set without going to a dealer and any idea on a rough costing??

Best way to get working keys is through Martin Imber .. one of the guys who used to be a regular here .. he has his own website though ..

http://www.imber.me.uk/keyfob.htm

He will repair/sort out any key problems very quickly and very well, I've had both mine on both cars done by him and am very happy with the results :)
