steering idler change
« on: 20 April 2008, 19:59:50 »

Hi everyone,

had a go at changing the steering idler on a friend's omega today, the end attached to the centre tie rod was a bit "challenging" ... until I had what I thought was a bright idea - and it worked  :y

Remove nut securing idler to centre tie rod
Remove nearside track rod completely
turn steering fully to the right, this exposes the end of the centre tie rod
tap end of centre tie rod with 1lb dead-blow hammer

this seperated the two for me with 3 or 4 fairly easy blows ... way, way easier than mucking about with breaker bars!!

any comments on this - if it's perceived to be a good solution then the how-2 could be updated ... ????
