Is it that the catch is broken?

Not locked catch seems broken/disconected.

I had this only last week.

The pin (or one of) in the catch hinge has broken. You need to push the under side of the catch back into the lock hole. You may need to force it a little.

Once that's home place a finger in the top edge of the hinge and open as normal.

It's glove box out to fix the pin though.

Where Rob when you need him? :)

New handle (if black) is quite reasonable from dealer, but a sod to change.

Check to see if the missing plastic pin isn't lying around in the footwell. If it is it can simply be pushed back in (once you've ripped the glovebox apart of course :D) :y
