Make sure ignition is off, ideally battery disconnected too, remove the two bolts from the back of the two bars of the steering whel & the airbag just lifts off. Then you unplug it

Mine did squeak, I used a can of spray that was left in the car after a service, the stuff they use on the hinges and with a long nozzle attached, I soaked the bushes in the top of the column, the fluid ran down and lubricated everything on its way, no squeaks now.

My steering column gets squeaky sometimes too, I just turn the music up
