That's Killed That Idea
« on: 02 October 2012, 08:04:11 »

FFS >:( >:( >:( >:(

Remember a while back I posted a link about a proposed increase in the limit on M,ways

http://www.motoring.co.uk/car-news/proposed-80mph-speed-limit-scrapped-_48663?utm_source=motoring.co.uk%26utm_medium=newsletter%26utm_campaign=news

Why are we driving around at a limit that was introduced back in the sixties when a lot of cars had drum brakes & by today's standards didn't stop all that well ???
Why don't all the mamby pamby do gooders break off & do one :y :y

they are always banging on about speed kills. Inappropriate speed kills maybe, but not paying attention probably kills more.

80mph on the motorway is pretty sensible

Not to mention everybody already does 80mph, often on M40 the only thing you overtake are trucks!

Leave the speed limit where it is. If they raised it to 80mph, what speed would the sales rep do then?

Been zapped by a pro laser many tears ago. Most people know whats acceptable.

I can remember when there was no limit. The 70 MPH limit was introduced as a temporary measure in 1965, bearing in mind most family cars would be hard pushed to exceed that by much anyway. ;D ;D
I can't remember when or whether it was made permanent ::) ;D ;D ;D Barbara Castle would have known ::)

I personally think it should be raised to 100MPH for motorways only, most cars are easily capable of cruising at that speed, and have efficient braking systems. The only problem is the prick behind the wheel so perhaps 80MPH would be the sensible choice :y Then again it's not often that the motorway is clear of traffic to get up to the limit. :D :D

I think a better idea would be to ban everything over 3 tonne or anything towing to the inside lane leaving the two overtaking lanes free for cars and vans. That would stop mile long rolling road blocks ::)

Reaction speed is the bigger issue I think, our reactions have not improved as much as the cars have.

I'd also like to see trucks banned from lane 2, in some parts of Italy I recall trucks are not allowed to over take each other during rush hour  :)

No issues with lorries overtaking. Yes, it can be inconvenient but at least they pull over again ;)

It would be better if the bloody middle and outside lane hoggers got banned instantly >:( >:(

They should certainly be in the inside lane only on 2 lane dual carriageways, IMHO. :y

They tried this on the M5 a few years back, between Junctions 19 & 21 (I think, near Bristol anyway) Inside lane was moving faster than the two outside lanes, which were congested,  in particular the outside lane.  They've never done it again.  I was travelling along nicely with my Tin Tent :y

I should be allowed RPGs to educate the retards sat in the middle lane, as their penis is too small to allow them to use the inside lane.

Not sure I could afford the ammo though...

80mph under conditions shown in that pic wouldn't be a problem. But when have you EVER seen a motorway with traffic positioned like that...?

Fact is nobody has been trained in any way to drive on a motorway. It seems fairly easy to me, but then, I haven't been trained either. I made it up. As we all did, as to what seems right to us individually.

Everyone's idea as to how to drive on a motorway is different. To me a dotted white line between lanes means give way to traffic in the lane your moving into. To almost everyone else it means nothing, and a flashing indicator gives automatic right of way weather there's anything in the way or not. ...dunno maybe I have it wrong.

...and they propose an 80 limit? Madness.

And the breakless morons who can't get it in their heads that you are supposed to get up to speed, and slow down on the slip roads, not the rather carriageways. Grrrrr.
