What I want to know is, what the hell is a 5 year old doing out at 7pm without her parents anyway ?

but she wasn't on her own, there were lots of other kids around, and it wasn't as though they were playing in a major city centre on their own ............. I'm guessing the town was a pretty small place  :-\ :-\

Why do I feel this is another "close to home" mystery...

And, yes, at 5yrs old, shouldn't she have been in bed?

Tis dusk at that time of night, we live in a small village and no way would I expect to see any 5 year olds on the street, might be slightly different in the summer holidays in a cul de sac when parents are out doing the garden :)...............

I fear the worst despite the arrest and finding of the vehicle........I hope to be proved wrong, and if so then the enquiries around the circumstances can begin.............we do not have all the facts, probably very few really........ :( :(

I hope and pray she is still alive and well somewhere. No matter whether she should or should not have been out playing, it must still be devastating for her parents. The sheer desolation is enough without the added burden of guilt, which has no doubt crossed their minds.

Apparently the vehicle is an L-reg Land Rover Discovery - left hand drive. Thus the reason why April appeared to get in "on the driver's side".

Dreadful, dreadful event.  :( :'( :'(

Just been on the news. April was playing within sight of her house. It appears that there was a green by the houses that she was on ....... but as you say, very few facts.

My thoughts too  :(

If she was 7 or 8 and a little bit more street wise than maybe but 5 years old and pretty much after dark is wrong imho  :(
Put it this way, giving what I know of the circumstances she wouldn't have been out if she was my daughter  :(

Indeed, neither of my two have ever played out in the street, even though they are now older than April. However, let us not get too involved with blaming the parents. What's done is done. Let us concentrate our minds on hoping that April is found alive. The real blame lies with whoever took her without her parents' consent. That is where our anger needs to be directed, IMHO.

Just read this:

UPDATE April Jones Abduction: Mark Bridger [man in custody] was once a lifeguard at local pool and his own child was playing with April at time of abduction.

Absolutely awful to happen, and the dirty bast*rd wants a good kicking for the rest of his life. However I can't get over the fact, a five year old being out at half past 7 at night, when it is now pretty much pitch black at that time. Anyway, lets hope she gets found safely.

I fear that things are not looking good[I truly hope I'm wrong on that]However I do not think  that they should have named him at this point. If he or anyone else is found guilty on taking her then whatever punishment they receive[when she's found hopefully safe and well]should be long, slow and extremely painful and I for one would be only too pleased to volunteer for the role of punishment officer[although I suspect that I'd have to take my turn in a very very long cue]
