F1 2013 BBC Coverage
« on: 03 October 2012, 08:11:21 »

Does anyone know if the BBC are covering the 2013 season, and if so will it be in the same format as this year I.E 10 races live and the rest in highlights programmes?

I understand for the contract to be the same, its if the BBC want to continue to do it. The thing is, they still go to every race but only show highlights from some, so its still very costly for them. The still have to shift all the equipment to each race, its just less broadcast time.

Depends how the pennies go, as they will want to save money to keep things like Wimbledon at all costs!

Its our TV licence money.  So why dont we have a say in it.  We are forced to watch football, tennis and other sports when it suits them and they dont worry about the costs then, all they worry about is viewing figures.  :-\

I haven't found it too bad this year, at least no 5.00 am starts so far. Should they not broadcast it then you know where I am coming Tunnie :y :y

I agree, I don't quite get the point of carting equipment and staff to all the races not to give full coverage which costs the same plus they get to sell the broadcasts to other countries. They only save by leaving Eddie' I like the sound of my own voice' Jordan at home, Murray Walker used to commentate on some races from the studio in London, Australia for one. ;D ;D

Come on MS, you'll expect politicians to let us have a say next ::) ::) ;D ;D

I think you and I actually agree on quite a lot of fundamental issues on motorsport. Its all about the racing, not ever faster lap times.
You just need to see the difference between a genuine genius with a burning will to win (Senna) and an unsporting and dangerous cheat who has been proven to be nothing special in a car which is built to the same rules as everyone else (Scumacher). :y ;D

Nope.Senna was hard as nails, but didnt cheat, apart from the time he took Prost off deliberately, but everyone seems to forget Prost did the same thing to him at the same race the previous year (when they were team mates) although admittedly Prost was a bit more subtle when he did it,so he was simply serving up the cold revenge. ;)

I rate them both very highly. Senna had a unique mix of raw still/feel, and balls of steel. Shithead Schu undoubtedly had talent, but occasionally acted like a spoilt brat...  ...I suspect a lot of us might when under his desire/pressure.

Button, on the other hand, for contrast, undoubtedly is a good test driver, but lacks desire, and has the balls of mushy peas.

Fixed. :y

Honestly,I have always been full of admiration for drivers who will push it to the absolute ragged edge, hence Gilles Villeneuve being my all time favourite driver. Villenueve was admired by his peers at the time because he would never give them an inch they hadnt earned the hard way,but also never took an inch that he wasnt entitled to. Scummy, just wanted the statistics to rack up with his name beside them and didnt give a toss how his name got there.I honestly believe he didnt care if he killed or maimed people in the process.
If you watch the Senna documentary it states quite clearly that Senna wanted Williams to protest his Benneton as he was 100% certain it was running traction control (which was banned at the time) He and most of the rest of the Benneton team moved to Ferrari and it was an open secret that they were allowed to run a bent car to get Ferrari back on top (rather than leave the sport).
I have always been convinced if he and his car had the same rules imposed on them as everyone else did he would have been pretty mediocre. His recent spell with Mercedes has imo, vindicated that view. ;)

I have a brother who worked at a "competitor" at the time, and all teams followed the same rulebook.

Some designers are very good at finding loopholes to exploit - Gordan Murray being a prime/obvious example in the 70s and 80s - but that doesn't make the car "bent".

Gordon Murray was/is a genius,as is Adrian Newy. Benneton were running bent in the Schumacher years and when the Benneton people took over the Ferrari team they ran even more bent while the FIA turned a blind eye.My Italian racing connection swears on a stack of bibles its true (even though hes a Scummy fan) and he even heard whispers the Mafia may have been involved somewhere.
