utter madness
« on: 08 October 2012, 21:00:47 »

Heard on news today as how a young lass has had her stomach removed! Why?Because apparently on her 18th birthday bash she drank a cocktail that contained among other things, liquid nitrogen!!It seems that it's perfectly legal to sell this sort of thing without any sort of checks or balances. What utter madness is this on both sides of the fence, where people can sell these things without let or hindrance, and what madness prompts people to want to drink such a thing?!!!

I agree, was quite shocked by this, her whole quality of life is going to change for the worse.....How can they openly sell such a dangerous product, and to put it in a drink as well.....common place apparently :( :( :(

I can understand a lot of people wont know anything about the properties of liquid nitrogen, but in these days of elf & sayftee,it beggars belief that bars have been getting away with putting it in drinks. :o

Remember Physics at school when they demonstrated puting a flexible rubber tube in liquid nitrogen and then smashing it to pieces with a hammer in it's solid state. LESSON LEARNED  ::) ::)

Drink the stuff, the worlds gone mad, whats wrong with a Vodka Tonic  :o :o :o

The question in my mind is what sort of dimwit decided putting it in a drink was a good idea in the first place?

It looks good. The Nitrogen should've 'boiled off' before drinking, apparently some of it was still liquid when she drank it.
Tragic result though.  :( :( :(

In a bar full of drunks, that's never going to end well is it?

You really can't blame the girl. She's 18, barely out of school... under the influence, and drinking something obviously advertised as "fun" by the bar. It would only be fair that she would naturally assume it's safe, on the basis the bar is selling it openly...

I feel really bad for her... and hope this practice is outlawed immediately...

Agreed. :y
I cant believe its legal to use the stuff in this manner. It so obviously has potentially lethal consequences, even for the bar staff handling the stuff. :-\

Agreed, as I said to swmbo, who will have to take responsibility for this, imo the bar that sold the drink, i bet they are wetting themselves at the moment cos they are going to be taken for a lot of money.....

Im sure her compensation will be in the high six figures (which may well put the bar out of business) but what use is money when you have no stomach ?  :(
