you need something like my old 406 hdi,it'll go from Cornwall to Kent and back on one tank of derv(about 100 quids worth) 740-760 miles depending on which way we go,cruises at 80 at 2.5k revs and is comfy and quiet and believe it or not very reliable considering the 200k miles its covered

Actually before I had the (first) Omega I had an old Pug 205 Estate with the 1.9D (non turbo) engine - frugal, albeit slug like. Sadly the one I bought blew out a core plug/water way and emptied it's coolant (repeatedly) within a few months of purchase

So I bought the 2.5TD Omega, which turned out to have a knackered AR25 (never locked up) and got 19mpg So I ended up with a (marginally) cheaper to run 3.2V6 by using 'man logic' 

700 miles on a tank would be nice - although saying that, a friend of mine can get 700+ out of a tank in his 2.2DTi..

I keep the 406 mainly for trips to the inlaws(kent) as I'm not sure a V8 Disco's economy on a run is going to be palatable

I'm not a fan of them either, but they might be useful for some of the local kids. The road bends just passed my house & goes down hill, the number of people that take the corner/bend on the wrong side of the road is incredible ..... especially as you can't see round the corner.

My Cavalier does around 500 miles to a tank and a tank costs a maximum of £30. I win.

Yes i followed the road round to tesco's , not a speed hump anywhere

Oh Yeh! Depends where in the street you stand, but yes, I can see their reg number. I shall tell John when I see him!

Also went to have a look at where I was working in June (date of latest SV), see if mig is on that as well, but that is still 2009. But there is a mig parked where I "will be" in 2012, weeiirrdd
