"Do the police" very good generalisation there ... or should it be .. "did that officer"

As I understand the few "facts" available ..
A report had been received of a man being daft with a sword.
An officer was sent to the scene (and I suggest he was now "primed" that any long thin item would be a sword ??)
Further reports were received, so heightening the officers tension and perceptions ??
The officer
saw what he thought fitted the description given, shouted a warning, was ignored, actedWithin minutes another man was arrested close by carrying a samurai sword, this man was found to be drunk.
So what does that all prove

Very little .. except that
a) The officer is human
b) The officer made a mistake
c) The officer was under some stress given the information he had received
d) see a) above
Of course, any member of OOF who has NEVER, EVER made ANY sort of mistake, and who has been tasked with apprehending a drunk armed with a sword and done so successfuly, feel free to criticise......
I just wonder what the reaction would be if the situation were the opposite .. he hadn't acted and it had been the sword, and the man went on to injure someone

He'd then be hung for NOT acting I guess ......
