Watching a TV programme on BBC1 and the underlying story seems to be how peed off our Heroes are that they can not fire first, they can only shoot when shot at even if they see the enemy clearly with guns trained on them........ :o :o :o  I remember when a member posted on a previous thread that RoE have always been the same........I can not believe that our military can not have been on the attack at any time of out history, and hence not been restricted to firing first.....and yes I have time served.... ??? :'( >:( :-X

WE are NOT at "war"  .... RoE for war are totally different, especially when formally ordered to "attack".

We are there primarily as a "peace keeping" force, although the actual term is ISAF - International Security Assistance Force ... we are there to "help" the Afghanistan Forces.

Therefore the RoE are absolutely and completely different to those you hint at.

Correct, these RoE are almost exactly the same as they were in NI during the 'troubles' which was always a 'Police Action'

This all went quiet when it was revealed that they didn't actually kill the insurgent, they just didn't do anything...... no first aid, nothing, he was left to die so they are guilty of not helping a terrorist who was previously trying to kill them!!!

But all that aside, yes possibly 'good news' that they have been released with restriction.

Per Mare, Per Terram.

And what is the muzzle velocity of a 5.56 mm round ?
850 -900 fps ?

And we are supposed to stand there like good solders while some stinking camel shagging caveman looks down his barrel at us laughing ?

I will fight tooth and nail for the honor of everyone of our lads out there but if this what they are having to live with, I have only one bit of advise for everyone of them ..........................  PVR (or whatever its called nowdays) and tell ISAF / NATO and the british goverment to STICK IT  >:( >:( >:(
