If a cat C car is bought would it cost more to insure than a same car thats not cat C  Following up from another thead , there seems to be a few bargain cat c cars to be had or viewed at least .

Some ins companies won't touch them at all,others will but of course the insured value will be less,you also need to factor in the VIC check that a cat C will require before going back on the road plus most ins companies will insist on a new mot even if there is a valid one with the vehicle

Not as easy as i thought then , but i was assuming cat c & d were minor defect vehicles ie body panel not structural

I would have (got one now) a Cat D but not a Cat C

Always worth a look. Remember that a write off is subjective and based purely on the cost of repairs against the value of the vehicle, so it doesn't necessarily follow that a Cat C must have more extensive damage than a Cat D. Personally, I wouldn't have any prejudice against either, it would come down to having a look at the individual car and whether or not the price was right.

Going back to the original question about insurance, I have heard that some insurance companies will refuse to cover them, others are ok, so it seems (as usual) they make it up as they go along to get their extra pound of flesh
