Shows that you can't impose government and nationhood on a people, they sadly didn't succeed that time, but political freedom is an invisible unstoppable force that will eventually come to the fore. Unfortunately, not always for the better at the time, but it will prevail in the end. 

Ukraine, became independent briefly from 197 to 1920 with much fighting before it was taken over by Poland and Russia. In 1923 and 1932-33 up to 8 million were starved to subdue the population, but in 1991 and the disintegration of the USSR they grabbed independence again.

This is a lesson that the EU will have to learn and it will probably be taught to Brussels by the Southern Mediterranean countries.
