spark plug popped out!!!
« on: 26 April 2008, 10:30:15 »

What a trip! Welwyn Garden City to Exeter last night, was stuck in traffic on the M25 for over an hr, then 20 miles from Ex on the m5 and it felt like a panel had dropped off the front of the car and was banging on the road. Pulled into a service station (luckily only about 200 yards away) to see what it was.

Body was fine. Hmm. Popped the bonnet, and there was a smashed HT lead and a spark plug sitting on top of the engine!!

No light and didn't have a torch so had to get the RAC out to it (doh) he managed to get it all back together but it seems that whoever last touched the plugs hadn't bothered screwing them in properly. Luckily it happened when it did and not on my 120 mile commute to my new job!

So, there's going to be a wanted ad posted up for a new HT lead when I work out which one I need! Then I guess I should check all the other plugs!

It happened to me years ago in London, I had a VW beetle was going along quite happily when there was a bang then a loud chuffing sound coming from the back, I just kept going for about 5 miles to my house.

Opened the back up & found a plug had come unscrewed, easy fix, but driving back I was resigned to getting a new engine, it's funny how  sometimes in life things arn't as bad as they seem ;)
