They hibernate - beds are a great place. Nice and warm and safe........ ;D ;D ;D

One chose one of my t-shirts one year as it was hanging in the spare room to dry.. it got a surprise when I put the t-shirt on, but not as big a surprise as I got when it stung me two or three times down my back, fell into my jeans and got me another three or four times between the buttocks..

Oh, the dance I did around the kitchen, tearing off clothes...

Mind Bleeeeeeaaaach! Pass the mind bleach! :o

Friend of mine had the exterminator in to get rid of a 'huge' one in his roof.. they said it was big, but not the biggest they'd seen as that was some 3m diameter  :o

I'm told there's one in my roof.. really should get up there and send someone up there to remove it!

 >:( They do get rarer to find but from my experience they still sting you if they get the chance! They build a nest somewhere snug and probably wait the cold weather out. Pity that it don't wipe them out though........and the hoss flies (cleggs) too. ::)

Do they always build in the open, like your loft picture, or will they build in the cavity. They should not be able to, as I have cavity wall insulation ;)

I'll have to get our big torch out and explore the nooks and crannies in the loft (from a distance) ;D

We had a nest a few years back in the cavity between our bedroom ceiling and the eaves, so yes, they do seem to take to confined spaces too. Spent a few weeks wondering what the buzzing noise was, then got a chap in to nuke them. No problems since.

I wonder if you've got such a nest and there is a route by which they can get indoors? Perhaps they've seeking the warmth now that it's getting too cold for them to survive outside? Probably worth finding it and dealing with it now. I guess it'll get repopulated in the summer if you don't.
