Morning all,
The saga of the overheating sierra continues. Had the HG replaced (cost me an arm and a leg)-still don't think the problem is solved-car running a little lumpy. Haven't really used it for 2 weeks although started it regularly and let it tick over. Last night went to take it out for a spin and it will not start. It's turning over but not firing-could this be something to do with the lumpiness and missing?

Any ideas greatly received!!

Not sure what to suggest beyond plugs/leads/dizzy cap After the head on my Granada, the only two things that failed were the starter solenoid and the rear gearbox mount

Recalling that has reminded me, the fuel pump failed on my Dads' K reg Granada. The only give away was the obviously different pressures at the fuel fail. His pressurised, ie fuel was being delivered, but not enough to get through the injectors - it was just a trickle from the fuel rail, where as mine positively peed out.

Disconnecting the Omega fuel rail to compare might be an idea

After 13 years it seems to be one problem after another-I was going to give the radiator a flush today-but the car is stuck at my mothers-going to give Green Flag a call tomorrow as I have homestart with them-see if they have any ideas.

Stick with it won't be anything too drastic.

The biggest issues with those is rust, not many nice ones about, and alot less to go wrong than many new cars, and a damn site easier to work on

Never start a car unless you intend to drive it, IMHO. With injected cars the amount of fuel they chuck in during a cold start can flood the engine after a couple of starts if it's not then brought up to full running temperature. This may explain your starting problem. Pull the plugs and dry them out over a gas hob, crank it over a few times with the fuelling disabled to clear the flood. You might as well check the compression while the plugs are out, just for peace of mind then reassemble and see if it'll start.

Is it still losing water?

As to the rough running - is it exactly the same as before or a new symptom? Could something not have been replaced correctly during the HG work?

What engine was it again?

It'a a 1993 with the 2.0DOHC engine. I've left it tick over for 10 mins at least. It's trying to start-it's like theres a a lack of petrol. I've tried looking for the fuel cut off switch - but will call out Green flag on Thursday. The car seemed to be overheating so a head gasket was suspected and changed-I now think that the radiator is at fault. I'm not sure if the non-starting and the HG are related-it started act slightly strange about 6 months ago when I took it to Heathrow (about 150 miles)-it seemed to be hesitating around 70mph but push the accelerator and it was fine-then about two months ago the temp started to rise-changed water pump, thermostat, thermoswitch nad more recently headgasket. It was running quite lumpy before and after the gasket was changed. I got a little stung having the gasket changed and don't want to spend much more on the car-It's been in the family for 13 years and this is the only problem so far.
When I drove it home from having the gasket changed i=the temp was still fluctuating as if the thermostat was opening and closing-for the last 13 years the temperature had been steady at half way.
I don't think it's using any more water but have not taken it anywhere-could the timing have slipped-it's a chain.
I'll get Green Flag put and report back.

Remember pulling away sharply from a junction with a boot load of stuff, only for the car to cut out just as the box changed into second sat there like a right tit until I finally twigged

Unfortunately it's not in the wheel well-I've also failed to find it near the drivers footwell. They moved them about a bit later on and even the sierra club have problems. I'll have another look tomorrow.

They have got a habit of moving them. It's normally under the bit the wheel secures down to. If not in driver's foot well check passenger side too. Other place is engine bay, normally along the bulk head

Granada saloons and hatchbacks were either under the spare, or behind a two inch square panel in the bootsill if that helps
