Is this another urban legend to be gnored ?
« on: 04 November 2012, 21:12:58 »

Just got this via an email, what do you think, and no I have not received a notice.

Only accountants could come up with this one

Pay your fine, but, NO POINTS DEDUCTED, !!

Read on :-

This is how the points get added to your licence:

If you get a fixed penalty notice through the post which also carries
penalty points the  computer system first sends you a demand for the cash.

When you have paid, it then sends a demand to return your licence for
endorsement.

It cannot handle the licence endorsement and the payment at the same time,
and it cannot  process the points part of the system until the financial
section is complete.

If you overpay the fixed penalty, it must issue and send a refund cheque
for the  overpayment.

Therefore, overpay the fixed penalty by sending a cheque for the full amount
plus £1.

The computer will then automatically generate a refund cheque for the
over-payment and sends  it to you.

**** Do not cash this refund cheque - DUMP IT.

The system then remains 'open' and cannot  generate the 'send your licence
for endorsement' demand part of the program.

It does, however, record your payment of the fixed penalty, so it does not
trigger the  'follow-up unpaid fine' stage.

As there is no human intervention, the system will leave you alone, since
it has got your  money, which is the primary objective!

CIRCULATE THIS WIDELY !!!!!!!!!!!!

Best way to avoid points is to get a N. Ireland licence. Being from the north I have one and have been caught a few times in England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland. None of them have actually been able to put points on my licence and in England/Scotland they have even queried the legality of my licence.

I got caught by a Police camera van a few years back. My Fixed Penalty Notice arrived one and a half months after the offence, having been delayed by a postal strike. I protested that I had not been notified within fourteen days as required. They argued that the procedure had been started within fourteen days so it was irrelevant when I received it.
They won.  ::) ::)

I still read things that show contrary to this but hey ho, it's done now.  :y

Yeah, if they can prove they "sent it to arrive" within 14 days, whether it does is your problem.  >:(

Im struggling to see why you cant have points put on your Northern Ireland licence in England or Scotland. ???
Republic of Ireland maybe as its a different country, although still an EU country. I got away with being very naughty in Dublin many years ago,as once I was back up north they couldnt touch me. That was before they joined the EU though, not sure how it would work now.

When I was in N.I. I got caught speeding many times, sometimes at ridiculous speeds hahaha! (one time decided to race an unmarked Legnum - that was an eye opener!). I digress; for the few times I was actually punished DVLNI couldn't issue points to a DVLA license, bonus!!!!!

If thats the case I wish I had bloody known when I still had my N.I licence. I risked life & limb many times racing  away from police cars. Those were the good old days when if they didnt catch you on the road they just accepted it and thought they would try harder next time. ;D
Having said that.I can bear it in mind next time I go over for a visit. :)

The first time it happened me I was clocked by speed camera, got the paperwork in the post and sent it away. I received back a letter saying that they didn't recognize my licence and a form for a U.K licence (England, Scotland Wales). Since my licence already said U.K on it I didnt bother sending the from away and heard nothing since. Thats about 5-6 yrs ago. Been caught few times since by actual coppers and the last one started laughing when I showed him my licence and called his mate over. They told me that they cant put points on it as it was issued in coleraine and the people in Swansea dont deal with them!!! The other thing is that they have great difficulty bringing up any details of vehicles registered over here, once we discovered this all the vans were changed to N.I plates and you can fly through as many speed camera's as you want   :y. Not that I would be one for encouraging this or anything  ;)
