Omega 2.0 16v petrol difficulty to start first time
« on: 06 November 2012, 11:47:59 »

Hi guys

i still have the problem with starting the car in the mornings. Its just annoying. When cranking eventually it will start, but engine check light will be on. Than after one minute running if you restart the engine light will be gone and will start better than a new car. Unfortunately paperclip test does not work when engine is running. Otherwise ECu's memory is clear and no errors are logged there. I have a suspicion that it could be camshaft PS related as after initial start engine will not do more than 4000-4500rpm. After restart it will run up to its original maximum.

Any thoughts???

Certainly appears to point to faulty cam sensor. Only replace with a Genuine GM one as pattern part will not last long and you will waste your money :y

When engine is not running it will not show any stored errors. Meaning before initial start there is no error stored. After shut down it clears whatever error code occurred.

I know its cam related, but question of the day is how the hell it mends itself after second start of the day? will run 100% perfect all day long.

It doesn`t. Cam sensors on the 4-pots are notorious for sporadically playing up. You can remove it and give it a good clean see if that helps

Thanks for the reply. will clean it tomorrow. To be fair i dont think there will be any difference as when changing the engine ( a month ago) i had to swap it from old engine as cam sensor on new was with different connector ( rounded type - still have it) and my sensor looked clean and there was no dirt or oxidation in the connector on both loom and sensor.

If problem is still there will find another cam senor.
