Trim coating????
« on: 08 November 2012, 22:35:59 »

Hi, in the attempt to freshen up my Miggy's trim, I am wanting to do something about the soft coating on the door cards, centre trim and switch gear around the stereo.
I think somebody has tried to clean it with a solvent or something as it is really sticky as well as being scratched and worn, it is really quite horrible...
So, I would like to strip it off and either replace the coating (not sure with what) or cover it???
Any ideas???

Technically, no. Did try helfrods bumper paint first. Grey ran and ended up brown >:( flatted back with 800, then tried same but black. Dried patchy with white areas, and ran, again >:( Flatted that again with 800, then four coats of the Tamiya, rubbing down with 1200 between coats, 1500 before the last :y

The inside of the door pulls don't cover too well, but it is almost impossible to remove all the coating from inside them :-\ just make sure the first 1/2" or so is stripped off as best as :y

When I get to do the front cards, I'll simply sand, wipe with a tack cloth allow to dry and then paint them direct. You should find it covers well on the clean plastic as that is what it's designed for :y

its all in the prep.  remember most people clean car interiors with silicone polishes and paint hates anything that has sniffed silicone.
dave when you come to do the cards go over to baldock and have a chat with them. :y

Is that the fella I met with the Caddy?
My wife's not too impressed with a hall full of trim but she is looking forward to helping me get rid of all the soft stuff, NOT!!! Lol...
Thanks for your help!
