Hole is in the flexi-joint in front of the CAT on 2.2 auto 2002. I took it to the local exhaust fitter and they quoted £300+ for just the front pipe, then suggested it would be cheaper to get someone else to cut out the flexi-joint and weld on a bit of pipe in its place, as the rest of the front pipe is just fine. What do you think?

Anyone know a good place to get this repaired/replaced? (Lincolnshire)
Also, for DIY alternative, I hear Eternal is good, but I looked today and can't find any Omega exhaust on their site:

I am sure you could get a section of flex welded back in place....

Give them a go for the part and all you will need is a welder guy.... Unless you can weld???

I've repaired a couple of these with a new flexi like HockeyDave and RobG suggest. In fact I always cut out good flexi pipes as spares if ever I replace an exhaust that has a good one, but it's usually the flexi that fails first...

Whereabouts are you in Lincs? Anywhere near Grimsby?

This is good news - thanks everyone. I'll try to pin down a flexi tomorrow, and jonnyboyws6 - I'm about 15 miles from Grimsby - can you do it with the exhaust in place, I really don't want to take it off the manifold and undo the sensors, and possibly break something. I don't have welding equipment and the last time I did any welding was (so many) years ago.

It's much easier to weld with the pipe off the car, don't think you would be able to get to the top of it because it would be too close to the underside of the floor. I guess in theory you could just sleeve and clamp it if you could get a tight enough fit, but in practice not sure how successful it would be... remember any air leak will upset the lambda reading, and sealant is not good for the cat or sensors so it would have to be a very snug fit. Welding it  is definitely a better idea.

OK, then this is a big job - I think I need a garage that will be able to do it, the one I approached here refuses to do this sort of welding mod. Any recommendations in Grimsby?

Mister Exhaust on Rendel Street (near Corporation Bridge and Hartwell Ford) are pretty good. You might need to speak to a mechanic instead of the receptionist to explain what you want doing though.

Or if you want to dismantle it and fetch the parts, I'll weld it back together for a few beers.

Cheers, mate, that's very kind of you - I'll PM my phone number if I decide to wade in. I'm going onto my back for another look to see if I want to try to get it off - it's the rusty bolts to the manifold that bother me - I've sheared bolts like that before and it's not fun afterwards, garage has the advantage of acetylene torch to heat it up.

Had a look underneath again, and noticed the front pipe makes a bend right before the flexi, and has a bracket welded on right there - if you've done this on 2.2 before, you already know, so sorry! It made me wonder if the new flexi could be welded in there - there's doesn't appear to be any leeway at all. Here's the only picture purporting to be 2.2 I could find that's remotely like what I saw:

If you don't think this is a problem, I'll order the flexi (as per RobG's specs, which correspond to the dimensions I found on my one, 4" long, 2" diam)

Fantastic, if it's not silly money. Do you know of such a place - I'll websearch it but expect I'll get millions of kwik-fit clones in the results. The thing is, the rest of the exhaust is reasonably good shape and good quality, pity to replace with cheaper stuff.

Try some of the standard stainless places, Jetex, Powerflow ect. They should all list franchised garages, try contacting them.

Remember the Flexi itself should be no more than £20, so might be worth taking that along.
