Hi everyone, still having problems with my new baby!

It seems the selector switch needs cleaning, I have read the maintenance section on removing and cleaning the selector switch but still don't have the first clue!

I have jacked the car up and can't seem to locate the swtich, let alone start to remove it!

I was wondering if anyone is local to Farnborough in Hampshire who had some experience in removing the switch? Who would be willing to give me a hand?

As I really don't fancy paying the stealer!

An assistant to move the gear lever should reveal the mechanism moving, and hence the switch position. There are a few heat shields to deal with iirc, but no direct experience here. Sorry.

only ever done one on a v6 but selector switch is located on passenger side of gear box,half way down the length of the auto box. HTH removal is easy from memory unplug electrical connector and removal of one bolt that hold it onto a shaft. HTH

On the passenger side of the box, a quarter circle shaped device, around 3". Has a loomcoing out of it (about 6") going to large multiplug. Not sure if the exhaust on a 2.2 restricts access like on the 2..6/3.2

Very expensive new, can normally pick up a known good from a breaker for around £20.

Thank you all so much for your replies and for bearing with a newbie!

Job done, removed switch, cleaned with contact cleaner and re-greased with electrical grease, and replaced......runs like a dream now with no issues!   (Except a broken jack!)

I think you might be right there tunnie, I don't think the switch had ever been off in the 12years! I'm just glad it was cleanable and no dealer was needed!

I hope there was no chance of anyone being anywhere near under the car when it broke!

No Andy, it was on axel stands, thankfully!  I was just trying to get a little more room under the car to get the switch lined up correctly, the standard factory jack just didn't have enough strenth in it, and snapped (I didn't have a trolly jack to hand at the time being new to doing any type of work on cars) I must remember to replace it before I get a flat on the M25 in the rain though!

Factory supplied jack should be considered as emergency use only

Yeah, the factory jack wasn't up to much! Knew I shouldn't have really used it but at the time was the only jack I had to use.

There's an omega spares shop on ebay so I'm hoping to pick a new one up soon for that emergency situ! And I have now invested in a trolley jack and creaper!

I'm sure you'll be able to pick up a jack from one of the breakers here.

If anybody hears of a jack going could they let me know please? (I'm not able to post on the wanted section yet)

I've never really attempted much more than changing a headlight bulb on cars before, so didn't really have very much in the way of equipment!

But I've always wanted an Omega, so now I've finally managed to afford the insurance on one, I'm hoping to really make the most of it! Something which I know this forum will be very useful in helping me with!!
