Was just browsing for cheap big cruisers and came across this BMW.. Just read the description, By the sounds of it that car has been nothing but an expensive pit hole of misery  :o

Swirl pot failure is common however I'd be saying the bottom end will need a complete rebuild as it must of taken a lot of punishment when the con rod got bent. Failure of the oil pump means I'd suspect the bearings are shagged. It would be costly to repair and for the money he's asking you could probably buy a fully working one which will work out cheaper after you've faffed around with that.

Had two BMW's[not at same time, and some years ago]nice enough cars I suppose, but very over rated and over priced in my opinion, but then I could be biased as I blew the engines up on both mine.A feat I've never done with any other manufacturers cars!

Well at least the chap is being very honest! :y :y

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole though.  Those existing engine problems sound like major ones to me.  In short to put back onto the road probably a reconditioned engine required!! ::) ::)

You get good ones and bad ones, as with anything else. Had three 730Ld's all running at the same time, two were faultless, the other needed three injectors and a leak off pipe at one stage. Five, 520d's all running at the same time, 4 were fine, one needed an exhaust temperature sensor. You won't get every single car with 100% reliability, I could be considered as biased, however it's the truth  :y.

Currently having to use a different office at the moment and was chatting to one of the girls who recently bought a BMW, 2.0L engine but not sure what model... They bought it thinking it gave the impression that 'we have made it'   Anyway she is a bit frightened of it having spun it 3 times, not used to RWD I guess.............  I was extremely supportive and told her how terrible it was going to be in any snow or ice...... :D :D :D
