Log book issue (export)
« on: 25 November 2012, 14:52:05 »

I've been offered a bike from a friend which is very tempting. Thing is my mate lives in New Zealand. He purchased the bike over here and was going to export it with several cars he has over here. Well he's just found out it won't all fit in the container. So he's offered the bike to me but I'm a bit concerned the DVLA has been informed the bike has been exported. If it has what are my options to getting it back? Will it need to go on a "Q" plate. VIC?

If the Bike hasn't left the Country then it hasn't been exported so surely its just the paperwork need to be undone or sorted I would have thought. If your friend is in NZ get him to transfer ownership to you so you can get it registered in your name over here.

Could there be import duty etc if it has already technically been exported, albeit on paper :-\

sorry, no option other than to get in touch with DVLA on that one.

Do you still have a local office ?

its an interesting question tho. The V5 tick-box clearly states "has been permanently exported", and not "is about to be permanently exported", so someone's broken the rules.

The two extremes are :-

take the bike for a vic and DVLA agree to rip up their copy of the V5 return.

pay import duty and VAT and effectively re-import it

Tis a tricky one. Doesn't look like it's going to happen anyway.
