Something wrong with 2.5L(head gasket?)
« on: 28 November 2012, 08:58:32 »

Hey guys

I've got a problem with my car, I got a terrible noise from the engine and it's vibrating abit. It all happend suddenly after I've stopped the car with the engine.
And when I started to drive again the car didn't respond right even with pedal down, and alot of exhaust.
I expected that it could be the head gasket but theres no coolant in oil or oil in the coolant.
And the smell of not burnt fuel from the exhaust too...

Anybody with Idea what it could be.
I'm asking here first since cost a fortune to check this at the workshop here in Norway...

Nor me - set the video to sharing not private.

Possible misfire?  Oil in plug wells, plug leads, DISS pack - check

Any codes?

Very unlikely to be head gasket on 2.5 V6 mate :)

Try again I think I got i right this time..

Heres another video this time with a warm engine

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zlLbiAsVgc

Did also see some oil on the side of the engine straight above the manifold.
Tryed driving it now and there's alot of smoke from the exhaust and the car don't seem to be any quick....

From your video looks like your engine has back pressure,

Some feedback. Startes to remove the plenume and alot of mayo in the hoses. Found that there were some oil in first in the spark plug well in nr 1. Removed the oil and removed the sparkplug from 1,3 and 5 both 3 and 5 where black. And then I cleaned the plenum and the oil breather since the where alot of nasty stuff there. But it all together and took it for a spin but stil not better. I also noticed the i have a hole in the middle of the exhaust....

Looking at all the mayo in the oil filler cap and stem and steam coming out of the dip stick and exhaust are you sure it isn't losing water?  Is it steam, can't be sure from the video, stick you hand in it is it moist or oily?  Looks like head gasket to me.

Yes I did clean that part....
I'm not loosing any coolant at all and the temp is normal on the car..
The steam that comes out of the dipstick and the filler cap smells like exhaust, there's no sign of head gasket failure theres no oil in the coolant and no water in the oil.....
And the coil pack was changed last year...
Right now I'm not sure what it is anymore, it goes better fram higher speed but from the 0 and up it's kinda not willing at all...

If you're not losing any coolant water all that mayo is coming from water somewhere.  Only place left is the exhaust gases, I think they must be going into the engine past a piston which fits with all that gas coming out the dipstick. Try disconnecting each sparkplug lead one by one if it doesn't slow that is your cylinder.  However if it is that -  broken piston ring or damaged cylinder or piston, it will be very expensive and probably indicates other wear.  Other option is gasses coming past worn/broken/mistimed valves but I wouldn't expect those to appear in the engine.

Being optimistic the mayo could just be because you are living in cold damp Norway I suppose.  Does seem a lot though. Is there any way rain or car wash water got into the engine?

If exhaust gas is leaking past a piston then that will explain any abnormal moisture level in the oil without coolant loss.

Are you sure the dis pack and spark leads are good after all that oil was in the wells?  It can absolutely knacker them both when the black smelly stuff gets in there.
