Just removed and replaced my 17 standard wheels tyres with winter set from last years light usgae.

Got around to thinking about the spare wheel and unsure if the sizes are compatible.?

Current winter tyres fitted are 215/55/16 Continental 830,s....standard issue VX spare wheel tyre is 205/65/15.

Could somebody who understands these things just confirm that my spare will be suitable as a "get me home"

Nothing to do with Winter tyres, but I just noticed that the spare in my X Reg 2.5 Elite Est is a different size to the fitted.

As far as i know all Omegas come with that size tyre as Vauxhall never changed the tyre well so it's the only size that fits, it is perfectly safe to use,
I'm sure someone with a lot more knowledge will be along shortly to confirm

Correct - same rolling radius, but Vx advise max speed of 50mph

On my 52 plate Elite Estate, I've still got the original temporary low speed spare, which is 195/65/15.    As said, you'll be fine with yours as its only a 'get you home wheel' anyway.

Yes it will be ok to get you home and get you to garage to get fixed but don't leave it on too long especially in wet. I have just binned mine and got a full size alloy wheel for spare I hate those things and think they should be banned. JMO

Intresting topic with some grey areas. It would fail an MOT for having odd tyre sizes, therefore I assume that means it would be illegal to drive like that...? and therefore your insurance would be invalid?? But the manufacturer supplies it... Hmm.
I guess it's one of those scenarios that a friendly policeman might understand if you had just got a puncture and were on your way to get it repaired.

Buth almost every Omega will have a different size spare wheel to that fitted....Factory fitted spce for spare was 205/65/15 for my car.

Just wanted to understand that a 205/65/15 would have the same radius as a 215/55/16 and would not upset the car just as a "get me home wheel".

Me, if I got a puncture, I'd put the spare on and carry on my journey, and get it sorted when I get round to it. But I would be aware it may not be technically legal, even though Vauxhall made it that way.

Yup it does fit but it is a tight fit, and the cover does cover it, and I have the 235/45/17 so most others would deffinately fit

Hi.....205/65/15...dia is  648mm....cir.is 2036mm.................215/55/16....is dia  642mm...cir   2017mm,,,,,,,,,which means that if you are doing 70m.p.h....with the first tyre then with the 2nd tyre speedo would read   69.35mph...so slightly under 70mph...

I think a few rounding errors have crept in there  - I make the circumference for the 205  2034.18mm and the 215  2019.73mm; that would make the difference 70mph v 69.5027027mph, and it would be the 205 reading the lower speed.
